Should I say we're best friends?

I have a really good friend named Lindsey. We were best friends in preschool, but then got split up up until last year because we went to different schools. But last year we were in different cles and we barely noticed each other. But this year we were seated together in the same homeroom. We started talking a lot at lunch and stuff. Next thing we know, we're inseparable. I'm kinda nervous to ask if we're best friends. I don't want to start an awkward situation that could damage our friendship!!! Help?
