Whats a good guitar amp?

I'm looking for a guitar amp which is good for a wide variety of music styles. From Blues to Black Metal and everything in between. I have a Line 6 Spider 3 which is an epic fail at best. I don't want a distortion or overdrive channel on the amp. I want to use pedals for that. And I don't want to pay over $400. I know this is a lot to ask, but any help is greatly appreciated.
