What is the difference between Encryption and Encoding ?

Encoding means it is converting when you burn a .mpg video file on Nero to vcd it will Encode your video to vcd. Encryption is like a secret code or making a file more secure by Encryption can only be decrypted by its method. if we had a Encrypted file but if we did't know the method the we not able to access that file.
