What should i do about him?

Kay so, there's this guy i've liked for a few months now but he liked another girl. i accepted it but i didnt manage to get over him so i've just liked him from afar. then a month ago we started getting closer and playing around with each other and it was really good. then his best friend asked me who i liked. i was reluctant to tell him at first but after two days of pestering, i finally did.but turns out, that friend liked me too. i told him not to tell the guy that i like him etc but a couple of days ago he kinda hinted to the guy. he told the guy that he would tell him who likes him if he told him who he liked and he said my name. the best friend went "omg" apparently and then the guy quickly said "no i like nobody." and now it's awkward between us.(that was all without me around) what should i do? should i just avoid him and get over him or try to fix it?
